Hear from Melissa why she is running for Andover Select Board
I am seeking re-election to the Andover Select Board for the same reason I first ran in 2022: because I love Andover. I am proud to have grown up here, raised my family here, and I believe deeply in our community.
I have brought my unique perspective to the Select Board — as a long-time resident, a parent, a taxpayer, and someone who has served on Andover’s boards and organizations, such as the Revenue and Expenditure Task Force and the Punchard Free School Trust. Now, I add the valuable experience of a first-term Select Board member, including serving as Chairperson of the Board after just one year.
Andover has given me countless opportunities to succeed throughout my lifetime. Growing up in the town, attending its schools and library, playing on its playgrounds and sports fields, and later as a parent, putting my children through its schools, coaching youth sports, and working and volunteering here have all shaped my commitment to the town. These experiences taught me the value of collaboration, the importance of asking questions, and being a community member who actively seeks solutions.
I strive to be a fair-minded and objective leader. I have invested my time and energy to help maintain Andover’s stability and ensure it continues to be a safe place to raise families. I envision a thriving downtown where people can shop and dine, schools that make us proud, and a business climate that attracts companies eager to invest in our community.
In my first term, I worked with residents, businesses, and other town officials to help navigate the post-COVID challenges facing Andover. I played a role in fostering stable economic growth through projects such as the redevelopment plans for the old Town Yard, the passage of the MBTA-community housing zoning bylaws, and updating the Master Plan. I have also prioritized addressing the needs of disabled residents, the historic preservation on Central Street, and the redevelopment of Old Town Hall on Main Street. I have worked to address food insecurity, expand community activities, and encourage smart use of existing industrial and business spaces.
Looking ahead, I see significant opportunities for Andover, including the development of recreational space at the former Park Family Farm on Chandler Road. If approached with a community vision, this project can help secure our town’s vibrancy for decades to come. My forward-thinking perspective focuses on Andover’s future while understanding the impact on all residents who have put down their roots here.
I believe today’s citizens benefit from the investment in civic engagement made by generations before us, and tomorrow’s generations are counting on us to continue that proud legacy. It would be my honor to serve a second term as your Select Board member, continuing my work to build a brighter future for Andover.
